The 2016 Hassan Fathi Award Ceremony

The BA is organizing the award ceremony of the 2016 Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture, which is set to take place on Wednesday, 2 November 2016. The ceremony will be followed by a seminar titled “The Future of Architectural Education in Egypt. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) President’s Medals Award Exhibition 2015 will also be inaugurated alongside the award ceremony. The exhibition showcases the works of the winners and a selection of entries submitted to the RIBA competition.

Disaster Management Conference

The Disaster Management Planning in Libraries, Museums, and Archives Conference was held at the BA on 23 and 24 October. The conference focused mainly on disaster management and cultural heritage in the Arab World. It hosted experts from IFLA, UNESCO, and the International Committee of the Blue Shield (ICBS), aiming to establish a vision or plan for disaster management at cultural centers in order to protect cultural and civilizational heritage.

"Farouk Shehata: A Continuing Experience" Exhibition

 The BA inaugurated an exhibition featuring artworks donated to the BA by the visual artist Farouk Shehata. The exhibition showcases 100 artworks representing Farouk Shehata’s artistic career. His long journey of innovation is reflected in his artworks, which portray the scourge of war, the beauty of nature, and the interaction and overlapping of colors and shapes.

Statues of Egyptian Literary Figures Unveiled

Six bronze busts that are sculpted representations of prominent Literary and intellectual figures in Egypt were added to the BA rich and versatile artworks collection. The sculptures were created by artists Essam Darwish and Abdel Aziz Saab, and they represent: Hafez Ibrahim, Ahmed Shawqi, Naguib Mahfouz, Taha Hussein, Tawfiq al-Hakim, and Abbas Mahmud al-Aqqad.

Highlights
The World of Shadi Abdel Salam Exhibition

The BA celebrates the legacy of distinguished artist and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shadi Abdel Salam through a permanent exhibition. Shadi Abdel Salam, who passed away 30 years ago, was a highly creative designer of set decorations and costumes, as well as a screenwriter and director. His work reflects a unique vision of the ancient Egyptian culture as well as Islamic and Coptic heritage. The exhibition includes many of the artist’s design sketches and paintings, numerous cinematic shots from films he directed, as well as some of his personal belongings such as pieces of furniture and his book collection.
