"The Way Forward for an Egyptian Ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty" Symposium

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a symposium entitled “The Way Forward for an Egyptian Ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty”, on Sunday 12 February 2017. The event is co-organized by IFLA and the World Blind Union. The objective of this symposium is to bring together relevant stakeholders from Egyptian Library and visually impaired communities and leaders to identify Egyptian Solutions to the lack of accessible books and educational resources for blind and visually impaired people in Egypt.

The BA Concludes "The World Is Rising Up: United Against Extremism" Conference

The BA concluded The World Is Rising Up: United Against Extremism Conference, which was held from 17 to 19 January 2017 and was attended by numerous researchers, intellectuals, and international experts specialized in the issues of extremism.  During the conference, the BA signed memorandums of agreement on cooperating in the counter extremism and terrorism program with several regional and international organizations.

"1956 – Points of View" Exhibition at the BA

In cooperation with CEDEJ, the BA organized the “1956 – Points of View” Exhibition, which showcased images and almost 40 tableaus containing texts, maps, newspaper clippings, stamps, advertisement and film posters, as well as audio and visual items. The exhibition included BA resources, CEDEJ archive materials, AUC resources, the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies archive, UN archive, and other resources.

"Art, Trade, and Culture in the Islamic World" Book Launch

The BA, in cooperation with Gingko Library, organized a Book Launch for “Art, Trade and Culture in the Islamic World and Beyond: from the Fatimids to the Mughals”, Studies Presented to Professor Doris Behrens-Abouseif. The essays in this volume bring to light artistic exchanges that occurred between successive Islamic dynasties in the central regions of the Middle East and further afield in China, India and Europe from the twelfth to the nineteenth century.

"One God and Three Religions" Exhibition

The BA Antiquities Museum is hosting an exhibition titled “One God and Three Religions: Religious Tolerance in the Land of the Nile” from 15 January to 15 April 2017. The exhibition aims to shed light on religious tolerance and coexistence between civilizations in Egypt among the three monotheistic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—from the beginning of the Roman era until the Fatimid Caliphate. This coexistence has brought forth fine arts that reflect the daily lives and religious beliefs of societies at the time, which has led to the acceptance of the other and their differences.
